When you look for computer colleges, it is a good idea to look at the job market first. See what jobs are in demand and what jobs best match your interests and abilities. Then, when you go to look for a computer college, you can ask them if they have specific programs to prepare you for that job.

Most colleges offer computer degrees that are more accurately computer science degrees, with courses that mostly cover computer programming. For hardware and engineering schools, search for computer engineering degrees. If you are more interested in the engineering side of computers, you may want to take the chance to study at an engineering college like: Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Illinois, or University of Washington Computer Science & Engineering. If you are looking for a Master's degree, you should try to find a college that is active in researching and publishing. For an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, you might consider a college where there is lower class size and more opportunity for individual attention.

On the other hand, you may choose the convenience of an online computer school. Online schooling has its advantages and disadvantages. Some people don't respect an online computer degree as much as they respect a computer degree from a traditional college. On the other hand, online learning may be the only option for some people, and online colleges can be very rewarding and effective.

Whatever path you choose, do your homework. Take the time to find the program that is right for you, that prepares you for the job that you want; keep your focus all the way through your program.
