The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is your key to getting government loans and grants. On the FAFSA, you provide information about your income and expenses; from this info, the government determines how much your family is expected to contribute to your education. The government then sends this amount to your school's financial aid office. Your school's financial aid office uses this money to determine how to disburse their FAFSA student financial aid funds. The FAFSA address on the web is fafsa.ed.gov.
The FAFSA site is a much more convenient way fill out your FAFSA than filling it out by paper. It is processed quicker and the computer checks for errors that you might not notice in the paper form.
Here are some pointers about filling out your FAFSA online:
- You can fill out a new FAFSA or if you filed a FAFSA last year you can apply for a renewal FAFSA which uses some of your information from last year.
- You will need to sign up for a pin in order to access your old FAFSA information.
- It takes the government 1-3 days to process your pin and send it to your ground address or to your email address.
