An Internet technology degree is usually a part of a larger Web Development degree, a Data Communication Systems degree, or a specialization in the Computer Science degree. There aren't many specific Internet technology colleges; if you want to learn about Internet technology from a traditional college, contact their computer science department and ask them how strong an emphasis they offer in Internet technology. Ask several schools until you find a school that seems to offer a strong emphasis in Internet technology. Work with your counselor to design a course that fits your Internet technology goals. A degree that teaches you about Internet technology would probably include classes in Java, html, and Visual Basic.
Internet technology is related to so many different disciplines that you may want to think about focusing on one part of the technology. A great idea, if you want a career in Internet technology, would be to get a minor in English or Communications. So much business on the Internet is based on effective communication, and a lot of that communication is done in English. Other options that would compliment your emphasis in Internet technology are Graphic Design, Marketing, or Business.
The worlds of technology and of the Internet are changing so rapidly that you will need to think of ways that you can make yourself versatile and adaptable. Find a niche in Internet and technology, such as a combination of knowledge of Internet hardware and knowledge of Internet programming, and then market yourself to companies that need those skills. Better yet, ask business owners and managers what kind of skills they need in those areas, and then go out and put together an education that meets their needs.
